FAQ

What is the goal of the program?

The goal of the program is to partner startups quickly and successfully with Aviva Canada and potentially other partners participating in the Safe x Connected Cities accelerator. Unlike a typical startup accelerator program that may focus primarily on fundraising, we think of this program as a commercialization opportunity to accelerate your traction in-market.

What type of startups are you looking for?

We're typically looking for seed stage startups with a product in market, early traction and a strong founding team. However, if you're beyond the seed stage (i.e. Series A, B, etc.) and you believe your solution will make a real impact, we encourage you to apply.

Can I apply if my company does not perfectly fit the Safer Roads challenge, as described on the site?

Yes you can, but we will be reviewing applications against the challenge set forth. We do like to think broadly about safe and connected cities and the potential implications of that. So, if you have a solution that you think can fit, please apply.

Do I have to be located in Toronto to take part in the program?

No, you do not have to be located in Toronto. We are not focused on picking companies from specific geographies. We do hope to find opportunities to bring people together in Toronto, but will run the program virtually.

How long is the program?

The program runs for 6 months. Your relationship with Aviva Canada or other partners may continue beyond the program.

Is there a cost to participating in the program?

No, there's no cost to participating in the program. Further, Highline Beta and Aviva Canada do not take any equity or make an investment up-front in your company when accepted into the program. Highline Beta may invest at the conclusion of the program, if you and Highline Beta agree to the investment.

How do I apply?

Applications for 2021 is closed. Please email us at programs@highlinebeta.com if you'd like to be considered for future cohorts.

What happens after the application has been submitted?

The selection team will carefully review each application. If an initial fit between the program and your company is identified, you will be invited to arrange an in-person video call with our selection team to get to know your company better. This may happen during the application period, or after applications are closed.
